DESCRIPTION:
These two massive door knockers represent an important addition to the frustratingly meager group of extant Almohad metalwork that can be identified as being specifically produced for architectural purposes.
Mediterranean seaboard, which during the Middle Ages enjoyed a period of cultural efflorescence from Islamic Spain to the Levant. Representing the heritage of Al-Andalusia and North Africa is a pair of Almohad-period bronze doorknockers originating from the twelfth century and a carved wooden door panel.
